Sources have previously told Reuters that Qatar is pressuring the two sides to engage in further talks to reach “understandings”.
An unnamed source told Reuters the meetings took place on Monday and Tuesday in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. A second source, a diplomat in West Asia, said more bilateral talks would take place this week but did not provide details.
According to Reuters, the diplomat described the New York meetings as “dialogue for dialogue”, adding that the idea was to lay the groundwork for future indirect talks to reach an “understanding” on the nuclear issue.
According to this report, a European diplomat said he did not know whether Qatar had raised the issue of nuclear and drones in bilateral meetings, but expressed doubts about Iran’s nuclear program.
