The Times: Democrats threaten to sue Trump over US war on Iran

Democrats

PNN – Time magazine, citing multiple sources, reported that Congressional Democrats are considering a possible lawsuit against US President Donald Trump over the war on Iran.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, The debate has intensified as the 60-day deadline approaches, May 1, when the White House must seek congressional authorization for the war or halt operations. The magazine reported that the White House has not announced its intention to seek authorization.

Democrats say the war violates US law because Trump launched it without congressional approval and can continue operations beyond legal limits.

Democrats, however, are divided on how to respond. Some say Congress could file a lawsuit if Trump misses the deadline, according to Time. Others believe a lawsuit is unlikely to succeed, noting that courts have historically dismissed such disputes as “political matters.” Party leaders are instead focusing on legal action.

However, these efforts have repeatedly failed. War powers resolutions designed to limit the president’s powers have faced obstacles in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, while efforts to limit the budget through amendments to budget bills have also been rejected by Republicans.

House Democrats also introduced an impeachment motion against Secretary of War Pete Hegsett for unauthorized military action, but the motion failed to pass the Republican-controlled House.

The US and Israel have launched a series of airstrikes on military and residential areas in Iran since late February, including one that killed the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in Tehran. Thousands of civilians and a number of military commanders have been killed across the country in the wake of attacks by Washington and the Zionist regime.

In response to the war imposed by Washington and the Tel Aviv regime, the Iranian armed forces launched Operation “True Promise 4” against the positions of the Zionist regime in the occupied territories and American military centers in West Asia, inflicting heavy losses on them in several waves of these operations.
