In the same context, the students of Columbia University, who initiated protests in support of Palestine throughout the United States, announced that they did not reach an agreement with the university officials and would like to continue their protests until their demands are met. According to the Associated Press news agency, the protests of the board of trustees, including professors and employees of universities across the United States, were against university presidents in using the police to deal with the protesters, which led to violent clashes, injuries and arrests of hundreds of students. Protesters at California Polytechnic University locked themselves in the building of this university for the fifth day. The officials had given them until 17:00 on Friday to leave the building, but this deadline passed and nothing happened and the students stayed in the building. At the University of Arizona, protesters had set up a series of tents, some of which were dismantled by the police, and at least one person was arrested.
34 people were arrested during the conflict between the police and protesting students at Indiana University. Also, 36 people were arrested at Ohio University and one person at Connecticut University. The president of Portland University, however, had a different approach and held a meeting to address the concerns of protesting students. In the meantime, George Washington University threatened to punish pro-Palestinian protesting students. The university warned the protesting students to clear the campus and said in a statement: “People who are still on campus and those who plan to join them and violate university rules will be punished and punished.”
