A blow to Trump in the primaries; several of his candidates were defeated.

PNN – The defeat of Trump-backed candidates in primaries across several U.S. states dealt a blow to the Republican Party.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Tuesday’s primaries in Florida and several other states saw the victory of Byron Donalds—a close ally of Donald Trump—in the Republican race for Florida governor.

However, the defeat of several candidates endorsed by Trump demonstrated that the former president’s backing is still no guarantee of victory in intra-party contests.

Donalds secured the Republican nomination with 47.8 percent of the vote, while former Congressman and former Republican David Jolly won the Democratic nomination. This race is to succeed Ron DeSantis.

In these same elections, Catalina Lauf—a Trump-backed candidate in Florida—was defeated, and Megan Degenfelder, his endorsed candidate for Wyoming’s governorship, also lost to her rival.

In Florida, Republican Representative Cory Mills, who is facing an investigation by the House Ethics Committee, also lost the primary election to Ryan Elijah.

It is worth noting that the U.S. midterm elections are scheduled for November 2026. Currently, Republicans control both the House and the Senate, but there is a strong possibility that Democrats could wrest control of either chamber from them. Historically, the president’s party tends to lose in midterm elections.
