PNN – In a report, Al Jazeera examined the reasons why U.S. sanctions and blockade tactics against Iran have failed to achieve their intended effect.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Al Jazeera’s website reported that the United States has failed to realize any of its objectives in its modern-day wars. Historical scenes—such as the events at Kabul Airport, the helicopter flight over the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, the death of 60,000 troops in the Vietnam War (culminating in the Paris Peace Accords and Washington’s withdrawal), and the dropping of thousands of tons of bombs on Afghanistan followed by a sudden withdrawal that resembled a rout—all serve to underscore this point.
The war waged against Iran by the United States and the Zionist regime was intended to dismantle the country’s nuclear and missile programs and topple the ruling system; however, these objectives were not achieved. Every U.S. attack is met with a response from Iran, demonstrating that the Iranians have not surrendered and their resolve remains undiminished.
The sanctions imposed on Iran are reminiscent of those enforced over the past four-plus decades. Following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, the United States imposed sanctions and a blockade on the country, preventing the delivery of food and medicine; the situation regarding Iran, however, is different.
Its land area is several times that of Iraq. Iran’s neighbors harbor no hostility toward the ruling system in Tehran. Iran shares extensive borders with Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Iraq, and its needs are met via Iraq.
Furthermore, it possesses a 700-kilometer maritime border in the north and maintains ties with northern nations, particularly Russia. For this reason, no matter how much sanctions are intensified, they cannot force the Iranian people to capitulate.
Interestingly, the current discourse focuses more on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz—which was not the cause of the war—than on the actual objectives the US and the Zionist regime sought to achieve by launching an aggression against Iran.
