PNN – Amnesty International has called for the suspension of Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, citing its crimes against Palestinians.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; while various movements worldwide have sought to boycott the Zionist regime—using diverse methods—since the early months of its genocidal war against the Gaza Strip, Amnesty International has issued a statement. In it, the organization welcomed the Netherlands’ decision to withdraw from the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest due to Israel’s participation, and urged the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to bar the regime from taking part in the contest.
Steve Cockburn, Head of Europe at Amnesty International, stated that the Netherlands’ withdrawal from the Eurovision Song Contest sends a clear message: no platform should be provided to whitewash acts of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and apartheid against Palestinians.
He added that this also highlights the European Broadcasting Union’s cowardly refusal to suspend Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.
An official from Amnesty International emphasized that Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest provides a platform for the regime to divert attention away from its genocidal crimes against the people of Gaza, the annexation of the West Bank, and the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in that territory.
The organization called on the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), along with its members and partners, to suspend Israel’s participation in the contest, stressing that there should be no platform for the whitewashing of genocide.
A few days ago, the Dutch public broadcaster announced its withdrawal from the Eurovision Song Contest, citing sensitivities surrounding Israel’s participation.
The Dutch public broadcaster emphasized that it is aware that Israel’s participation elicits various reactions within society, sparking debate and disagreement. Consequently, following consultation with the board of broadcasters, it has been decided that the Netherlands will refrain from participating in the 2027 contest.
