Bloomberg: China defies Trump in cooperation with Iran.

PNN – Bloomberg reported that Beijing is sending a message of defiance and resolve to Donald Trump regarding its cooperation with Iran.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing Bloomberg; the administration of Chinese President Xi Jinping is conveying a message of defiance and steadfastness to Donald Trump concerning the country’s economic ties with Iran.

The outlet reported that Beijing responded just hours after the U.S. sanctioned dozens of Chinese entities and threatened to target a “major financial institution” (which was not named) over its dealings with Tehran, declaring that its relations with Iran must not be disrupted or undermined.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry had previously stated—in response to US threats to impose further sanctions on Iran—that its cooperation with Tehran is conducted in accordance with international law.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that such cooperation should not be interfered with or disrupted. He stated that China is closely monitoring developments and will take all necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, adding that China opposes unilateral US sanctions against Iran, as these sanctions have no basis in international law.

China stated that U.S. sanctions and pressure would not resolve the conflict in West Asia; these remarks followed Washington’s recent call for nations—including Beijing—to join efforts to isolate Iran’s economy.

Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told reporters in response to a question about threats from U.S. President Donald Trump: Sanctions and pressure will not help resolve this issue.
