PNN – Chinese representative to the United Nations stated that a military conflict between the United States and Iran should not have occurred in the first place, and that both sides must engage in negotiations.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Fu Cong, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized during an open session of the UN Security Council on the Middle East issue yesterday, Thursday that China calls for the current tensions in the Middle East to subside as soon as possible.

Stating that a military conflict between the U.S. and Iran should never have taken place, Fu Cong added that the continuation of this situation is not in the shared interests of the parties involved or the international community. He urged the U.S. and Iran to resume dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible, with the ultimate goal of reaching a comprehensive agreement acceptable to both sides.

He emphasized that China calls on all parties to safeguard the security and freedom of navigation along international maritime routes, and to maintain the stability of global supply and production chains. In recent days, the situation in Yemen has escalated significantly, with its negative repercussions rapidly spreading well beyond the region. China consistently opposes attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, and urges all parties to refrain from actions that exacerbate regional tensions.

Fu Cong stressed that China calls on all parties to resolve their differences and disputes through dialogue and negotiation, with the aim of achieving regional peace and stability as soon as possible.

Referring to the Palestinian issue, China’s representative to the United Nations stated that this matter remains the core of the Middle East issue and must neither be ignored nor sidelined.

The Chinese side calls upon all relevant parties—Israel in particular—to implement the Gaza ceasefire agreement in good faith and in its entirety, and to cease all military operations in the Gaza Strip. Israel must fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law and ensure the large-scale entry of humanitarian aid and essential supplies into Gaza.

He added that the expansion of settlements in the West Bank has been intensifying day by day. Israel must immediately halt and reverse its settlement policy, effectively curb violence in the West Bank, and lift unjustified restrictions on the West Bank’s economy.

Fu Cong further stated that China supports Syria in advancing an inclusive political transition process. The Golan Heights are internationally recognized as occupied Syrian territory. China calls on Israel to end its illegal military presence in Syria.

He stated that the situation between Lebanon and Israel affects the overall stability of the region. Israel must adhere to the requirements of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and fully withdraw from Lebanese territory. In light of developments on the ground, the Security Council should seriously consider extending the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The objective is to maintain a meaningful UN presence in southern Lebanon and prevent the emergence of a security vacuum.

China’s representative to the United Nations affirmed that China remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering peace, promoting stability, and supporting development in the Middle East. China will continue its efforts toward achieving lasting peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region, and will persist in playing its part and contributing to this endeavor.
