PNN – The Turkish Foreign Minister stated that Iran is not the target of the defense pact signed between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan, and that no party is considered a target unless an attack is launched against one of the pact’s members.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network Citing Al Jazeera; Hakan Fidan said on Saturday that Egypt might join this defense pact—known as the Mecca Defense Pact—and emphasized Ankara’s intention to expand this new regional security agreement beyond its three founding members.
Regarding the pact, he noted that the vision of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is for the initiative not to remain limited to three countries, but to expand and, if necessary, bring all nations under this umbrella.
Fidan also noted that other countries are interested in joining this framework, describing the agreement as an initiative that Turkey hopes to expand further.
The agreement, known as the “Mecca Defense Pact,” was signed on August 7, 2026, in the presence of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the agreement aims to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression and to foster defense cooperation among the three nations, stipulating that any armed attack against one member would be considered an attack against all members.
