PNN – The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)—who has so far failed to condemn the illegal attacks by the United States and the Zionist regime on Iran’s safeguarded nuclear facilities—claimed that the agency is prepared to take Tehran’s considerations into account within the framework of cooperation with Iran and the modalities for resuming safeguards activities.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Rafael Grossi, in a new segment of his interview with the Russian news agency RIA Novosti published on Thursday, claimed that the agency could factor in Tehran’s requirements and considerations while cooperating with the country.
He added: We can do this in a respectful manner. We can act in a way that takes their requirements into account.
Grossi then—disregarding the circumstances resulting from the military aggression by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran’s safeguarded nuclear facilities—asserted that non-proliferation activities must continue, a point also emphasized by the IAEA Board of Governors.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has dismissed the demand for the unconditional implementation of safeguards under current conditions as nonsensical, insisting that Rafael Grossi must first demand a halt to the aggressors’ attacks and threats against peaceful, safeguarded nuclear facilities.
Iran’s mission in Vienna had previously stated that Rafael Grossi must first call upon the aggressors—namely the United States and the Zionist regime—to halt attacks or threats of attacks against safeguarded, peaceful nuclear facilities, thereby creating the necessary conditions for the implementation of the Agency’s safeguards.
Elsewhere in the same interview, the Agency’s Director General claimed that the organization is prepared to immediately resume the activities of inspectors in Iran should the necessary conditions be met.
Responding to a question regarding the time required for the inspectors to return, he said: Immediately, If we are asked, tomorrow.
Grossi also asserted that the Agency’s teams are ready to return and know exactly which sites to visit and what measures to take should activities resume.
In an interview with Bloomberg, he had also stated that, given the political will, reaching a new agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program could be achieved within a short timeframe.
Cooperation between Iran and the Agency faced restrictions following illegal attacks by the US and the Zionist regime on the country’s peaceful nuclear facilities, as well as the legislation passed by the Islamic Consultative Assembly.
The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes that the basis for cooperation and engagement with the Agency is the law enacted by the Islamic Consultative Assembly. Esmaeil Baghaei, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, previously stated in this regard: We remain a party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and committed to the Safeguards Agreement. In fulfilling these safeguards obligations, we are proceeding with our interactions with the Agency while taking into account the parliamentary legislation that designates the Supreme National Security Council as the authority responsible for this matter.
