PNN – Human Rights Watch claimed in a new report that Donald Trump’s administration in 2026 has committed numerous human rights violations in areas such as voting rights, freedom of expression, immigration policies, and reproductive rights.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the organization announced that it had released the report on the eve of the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence, a report that it said depicts a sweeping attack by the Trump administration on human rights essential to democratic governance.
Tanya Green, Americas director at Human Rights Watch, said: Respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms is one of the fundamental pillars of democracy.
He added: The Trump administration has violated human rights in almost every area, including many rights that are inextricably linked to the true realization of democracy.
According to Human Rights Watch, one of the most important areas of scrutiny has been the enforcement of immigration laws.
The organization announced that in January 2026, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minneapolis unjustifiably killed a man; an incident the organization said was one of several instances of unlawful use of force during a widespread immigration enforcement operation.
The report also highlights the humanitarian consequences of these policies for children.
Human Rights Watch said it documented in March 2026 the case of a child whose hearing aids were taken from him during his deportation from the United States, a move the organization described as an example of “cruel practices” in the immigration enforcement process.
The report also speaks of what it calls “the ongoing erosion of voting rights.”
The March 2026 report notes the decline in black voting rights in Mississippi, saying that structural barriers continue to limit minority political participation.
Human Rights Watch has called on the US government to allow people with criminal convictions to vote, saying the restriction disproportionately disenfranchises black citizens and is contrary to the principles of democracy.
The organization has also criticized the Trump administration’s plan, known as the “Save America Act,” which would impose stricter voter identification requirements and, according to Human Rights Watch, effectively end widespread mail-in voting.
The organization believes that the plan imposes unnecessary restrictions on voter registration and may prevent millions of people from participating in elections.
Human Rights Watch also stated that in the first half of 2026 alone, the Trump administration has seriously undermined or threatened the rule of law, freedom of expression, mechanisms to combat discrimination, as well as oversight institutions and transparency.
Tanya Green concluded: The United States must honor the founding principles and ideals upon which this country was founded.
He added: This requires it to also accept its shortcomings, confront them, and work to ensure human rights and democracy for all.
