PNN – Earlier today, residents of Iraq’s Basra and Baghdad provinces held rallies to protest the imposition of restrictions on flights between Iraq and Iran.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing Al-Mayadeen; residents of Basra and Baghdad staged public gatherings this evening to object to decisions regarding flight restrictions between the two countries.
The organizers of these rallies described the recent measures as aligning with U.S. demands and serving U.S. sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and they called on the Iraqi government to oppose these decisions.
These protests have intensified as certain Iraqi political figures have also reacted to the restrictions.
In this regard, members of parliament from Basra have announced the launch of a signature drive to convene an emergency parliamentary session, demanding the attendance of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Transport, and the head of the Civil Aviation Authority.
Protesters in central Baghdad chanted: If you cannot reach Mosul, let [the enemy] fight us! During the gathering, the crowd rejected the flight ban involving the Islamic Republic—chanting slogans such as “No, no to the blockade!”—and condemned government decisions that align with U.S. pressure.
