PNN – Criticizing the course of the negotiations, the former U.S. National Security Advisor Herbert McMaster stated that Iran has gained more from the process and that Washington is inflicting defeat upon itself.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Herbert McMaster, National Security Advisor in Trump’s first administration, emphasized in an interview with CBS News that Washington is driving itself toward failure in these negotiations.
Pointing to the unfreezing of assets and the increase in Iran’s oil sales, McMaster stated: We find ourselves in a situation where we are talking about negotiating for the sake of negotiating. The reality is even worse. The reason is that, in these negotiations, it is Iran that is gaining ground, as it is receiving massive sums of money. Iran is the one making headway in these talks. The Qataris are on the verge of releasing $6 billion in Iranian assets, and Tehran has already sold 40 million barrels of oil; it is replenishing its coffers and securing the very injection of liquidity it desperately needed to get back on its feet.
Continuing the interview, McMaster stated that Tehran, perceiving a “deep lack of American resolve,” seeks to drive the United States out of West Asia. He remarked: Their primary objective since 1979 has been to oust the U.S. from the Middle East as a first step toward establishing hegemonic influence and destroying Israel.
Acknowledging Iran’s power in the Strait of Hormuz, this former White House security official said: As soon as shipping in the [Persian] Gulf was disrupted and had a significant impact on the global oil supply; Iran was able to force us to back down.
He—whose country has repeatedly incited tension in West Asia and violated ceasefires—stated that the region is transitioning to the next phase of the war. We have entered a transitional stage; a phase leading to the next chapter of the 47-year war that Iran has waged against the “Great Satan,” Israel, and its Arab neighbors. The Iranians have come a long way, and they are securing everything they desire. They tell the Persian Gulf states: if you abandon your ties with the U.S., align yourselves with us, acknowledge our dominance over the Strait of Hormuz, and submit to us, everything will be fine.
