PNN – John Mearsheimer, an American political science professor, assessed Washington’s performance in the war with Iran, describing the conflict as a “catastrophic failure.” He stated that the U.S. not only failed to achieve any of its strategic objectives but also suffered serious damage to its military standing, regional alliances, and economic interests.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Mearsheimer—speaking on the program “Uncensored”—examined the consequences of the war against Iran and remarked that the U.S. had suffered a devastating defeat, failing to realize any of the goals it had pursued at the outset of the operation.
Mearsheimer stated that Washington launched the war with four objectives: regime change in Iran, eliminating Iran’s uranium enrichment capabilities, ending Tehran’s support for Yemen’s Ansarullah, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and Hamas, and halting Iran’s long-range missile program. According to him, the U.S. has failed to achieve any of these four goals.
The political science professor added that prior to the start of the war on February 27, Iran had no control over the Strait of Hormuz, but it has now gained dominance over this strategic waterway.
Mearsheimer stated that U.S. military infrastructure in the region has been damaged, Washington’s network of alliances in West Asia has been destabilized, and the global economy may also face a serious crisis in the near future.
Describing the situation as a “catastrophic failure,” he emphasized that there is no longer a military solution to this crisis and that all strategies employed—including massive airstrikes, blockades, and other military options—have failed.
In conclusion, Mearsheimer stated that no alternative strategy for the U.S. to exit this situation has been proposed so far; therefore, the current crisis has no military solution.
On the 28th February, the United States violated the diplomatic process and initiated a new round of tensions by launching a military attack on Iran. On the first day of this aggression, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and 168 students from the “Shajareh-ye Tayyebah” Elementary School in Minab were martyred.
Despite the establishment of a ceasefire in the month of Khordad, the United States once again violated the agreement and resumed its attacks, citing allegations regarding developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
Exercising its inherent right to legitimate self-defense and acting in accordance with international law, the Islamic Republic of Iran delivered a decisive and proportionate response to the US aggression, emphasizing that any act of aggression will be met with a powerful reaction from the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
