PNN – Delegations from the Foreign Ministries of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation held a meeting in Moscow to discuss cooperation on international security, including issues related to arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Mohammad Hassan-Nejad Pirkouhi, Director General for International Peace and Security at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, and Oleg Postnikov, Director of the Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, consulted on a wide range of topics during the meeting.
In this session, Hassan-Nejad Pirkouhi and Postnikov examined the outlook for regional developments following the military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran.
These consultations took place within the framework of regular Iran-Russia dialogues, conducted under the two countries’ comprehensive strategic treaty.
During the meeting, senior diplomats from Iran and Russia emphasized the need to strengthen the coordination of their respective positions ahead of the imminent commencement of the First Committee’s work at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The meeting also addressed shared areas of cooperation regarding the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the Biological Weapons Convention, and the peaceful use of outer space.
The parties expressed their interest in continuing bilateral contacts concerning arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation across various formats.
