Pentagon Concern over Impact of Minab Atrocity on U.S. Elections

Minab

PNN – A Western media outlet reported that the U.S. Department of Defense (the Pentagon) intends to postpone the release of a report regarding the country’s atrocity at a school in Minab until after the U.S. congressional midterm elections.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing informed sources, reported that senior U.S. defense officials plan to delay the release of an internal report concerning an attack on a school in Minab, located in southern Iran, until at least after the U.S. midterm elections.

The report states that individuals—who requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of the discussions and a lack of authorization to speak publicly—indicated that aides to U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth have communicated this plan to certain Pentagon staff members.

The U.S. congressional midterm elections are scheduled to take place on November 3, 2026.

This Bloomberg report emerges at a time when the attack on the school in Minab—and the manner in which the target was identified—has become a contentious issue regarding U.S. military conduct in a potential war against Iran. In an earlier investigative report, Bloomberg stated that outdated intelligence, a failure to update data concerning the school’s location, and flaws in the target-vetting process were among the factors that contributed to the attack.

The media outlet also reported that some Pentagon personnel became aware of the possibility of U.S. responsibility in the hours immediately following the attack; however, the final report from the military investigation has not yet been made public.

U.S. President Donald Trump had previously made remarks regarding Washington’s responsibility for the attack, yet the U.S. government has not yet officially acknowledged responsibility.

The attack on the school in Minab took place on February 28, 2026, resulting in the deaths of a large number of students and civilians. Media reports and international assessments regarding the scope of the attack have raised questions concerning the accuracy of U.S. military intelligence and adherence to requirements for the protection of civilians.
