PNN – In response to remarks by Scott Bessent, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow would continue to support Tehran and develop relations between the two countries.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing TASS; Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential press secretary, announced that Moscow would continue to support Tehran and that the United States has no right to monopolize relations with any specific country.
In response to remarks by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent—who had called for Russia to “distance itself from Iran”—the Kremlin spokesman emphasized that Moscow would continue to support Tehran and expand relations between the two nations. Speaking today, Thursday, to the news network Vesti on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, he stated: It is unlikely that the United States has the ability—or indeed the right—to monopolize relations with any specific country. We have our own partners and friends, and we will continue to maintain and further develop these friendly, cooperative ties with them; Iran is among these nations.
The U.S. Treasury Secretary had previously called on Russia to “distance itself from Iran” in response to remarks by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding assistance to Tehran.

In response to another question, Dmitry Peskov stated that Germany’s decision to close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn is a contradictory and absurd move. According to him, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is attempting to score points in the domestic political arena by closing the Russian consulate, but the move appears clumsy.
The Kremlin spokesman emphasized: All of this appears contradictory and absurd, especially given that no convincing arguments or evidence have been presented to support the accusations the German Interior Minister has leveled against Russia. Therefore, it is unlikely that this move will yield any advantage for Merz, nor is it likely to save his political career.
According to him, Russia will not initiate a downgrading of diplomatic relations with Germany, although Berlin is capable of taking “any absurd step” under the current circumstances.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also noted today that Germany’s new anti-Russian decisions—prompted by the drone incident at Leipzig Airport—represent yet another grave error by Berlin officials that runs counter to the interests of the German people. In his view, these decisions are linked to Germany’s domestic political situation, and specifically to the difficult circumstances facing Friedrich Merz.
