Qatari media: Iran imposed its priorities in the Swiss talks

priorities

PNN – Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed, referring to the imposition of Iran’s priorities in the Swiss negotiations, stated that Tehran’s achievements are undeniable.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the Qatari website Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed, in an analysis of the Swiss negotiations, examined Iran’s strengths and the concessions it receives from the Americans and wrote: Let US President Donald Trump, in his daily statements and posts, talk as much as he wants about the agreement with Iran, claiming America’s victory in it, and the superiority of this memorandum over the 2015 nuclear agreement that the then US President Barack Obama’s administration had signed with Tehran. We are not obliged to take his words seriously and not talk about the truth.

Iran’s victory and achievements are undeniable

Anyone who examines the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington, even if not carefully and hastily, without exaggerating the reasons for Iran’s victory and Washington’s defeat, can see Iran’s clear achievements and America’s clear retreat; to the point that even many Republicans from Trump’s own circle and his supporters firmly confirm that Iran achieved many achievements.

It should also be noted that this memorandum, by its nature, actually means declaring commitments that are conditional on the fulfillment of other commitments. The Geneva talks on this case, mediated by the Omani side, made significant progress, but these negotiations were merely time-wasting tactics, and Netanyahu had already succeeded in convincing Trump and his team to wage a major war against Iran, claiming that this war could overthrow the Iranian regime and that no negotiations or agreements were needed.

This anticipated war against Iran began hours after Trump’s representatives Jared Kushner and Steve Whittaker returned to Washington from their talks with Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaid about information he had received from Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Abbas Araqchi during indirect talks in Geneva.

But the scene of the new talks in Switzerland between Iran and the US was different not only from the February talks before the war that many feared, but also from the talks in Islamabad in April. What we saw on television and in the media at the Swiss talks included images, news and assessments that followed an agreement that was documented in a memorandum and many of its provisions were in favor of Iran.

Iran’s Firm Position and High Self-Confidence in the Swiss Talks

Here we must bear in mind that Iran has come to the talks this time with strong points and high self-confidence, and is not only not ready to give free concessions, but also firmly insists on its main positions. In this context, the Iranian negotiating team raised the Lebanon file as a main axis of discussion before any negotiations on any other issue.

This position of the Iranian negotiating team was adopted after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps revived the threat of closing the Strait of Hormuz in response to the violation of the ceasefire in Lebanon by the Zionist regime; a threat that some observers consider more important than the nuclear program itself.

This reflects the firm seriousness of Iranian decision-makers in emphasizing the new realities and issues that emerged after the recent war, a war that failed to achieve the stated goals of the United States and Israel.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei announced that his country is determined to monitor the implementation of the other party’s commitments under the memorandum of understanding with the utmost seriousness and precision. He announced that ending the aggression against Lebanon and lifting the sanctions on Iran’s oil by freeing up Iranian assets were the three main axes of the Swiss negotiations.

These positions reflect the Iranian negotiator’s high self-confidence, maneuvering wherever needed, toughening his stance, retreating or advancing when necessary, and flooding the press with statements and posts designed to undermine the Americans’ claims.

Imposing Iran’s equation in the Lebanon case

When the US expresses its dissatisfaction with Israel’s behavior in Lebanon and Trump’s vice president, J.D. Vance, takes a harsh tone against Israel’s actions in Lebanon, this means that Tehran has managed to impose its equation and force Washington to take actions beyond words and turn from verbal anger against Israel to taking tangible steps to contain this regime in Lebanon.

The Iranian negotiating team has probably managed to implement its priorities in the Swiss talks, as it has shown considerable skill and everyone has seen the ability of Iranian negotiators during months of difficult negotiations. This has caused Trump to back down to a large extent, especially as he has become aware of the growing economic risks of continuing tensions with Iran and the fallacy of the assumption that Tehran has no choice but to submit to his will.
