PNN – Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, announced his intention to run for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations, emphasizing a pragmatic approach.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, announced during a press conference in Vienna that he is interested in running for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations.
According to the Rossiya El-Yum website, Grossi explained his view of the position, saying that the UN Secretary-General should not appear in the role of a “judge”, but rather that his main mission is to solve problems and manage crises.
He also emphasized that he believes in the “pragmatic Secretary-General” model; an approach that focuses on maintaining lines of communication and advancing dialogue to reach a solution, rather than blaming and publicly accusing the parties.
The Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency went on to say that in order to play an effective role, the UN High Representative must maintain channels of communication with key political leaders and actors, and if the other side is simply faced with labeling, the possibility of advancing dialogue and resolving disputes will be reduced.
In explaining this approach, Grossi referred to his experience in interactions related to the war between Russia and Ukraine, and considered it an example of an effort to maintain a diplomatic path.
Grossi, 65, an Argentine national, has been among the figures in the running to succeed Antonio Guterres, whose term as Secretary-General ends on December 31, 2026.
