PNN – Reuters reported that Iran is consulting with several Japanese companies to resume crude oil exports to Japan under the framework of a U.S. sanctions waiver.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; citing Reuters, Iran has initiated talks with a number of Japanese companies to explore the possibility of resuming crude oil exports to the country within the scope of the U.S. sanctions waiver.

The report indicates that while Japanese companies welcome the proposal, they are seeking an extension of the sanctions waiver period and guarantees regarding the safety of oil tanker transit and the stability of export operations.

The aforementioned waiver was issued within the framework of 60-day negotiations between Tehran and Washington and remains valid until August 21.

Reuters also reported, citing Iranian sources, that three Japanese companies are evaluating the terms for purchasing Iranian crude oil; should these negotiations be finalized, Japan would resume oil imports from Iran for the first time since 2019.
