PNN – Reuters reported that Trump’s aides are seeking to prevent an escalation of conflict with Iran in order to offset electoral setbacks.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Reuters—citing four sources—reported that senior aides to Donald Trump, the head of the US “terrorist administration,” are striving to avert an escalation of war with Iran prior to the November midterm elections, aiming to mitigate Republican electoral losses.
The report states that, according to these sources, the US administration currently intends to rely on exerting further economic pressure on Iran to secure concessions in any future negotiations—concessions that months of military action failed to guarantee.
A White House official said: We are maintaining pressure on Iran. But November is a priority.
The sources—three of whom are White House officials—stated that containing the war by that time would help prevent the conflict from dominating the news cycle as Republicans fight to defend their slim majorities in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Reuters also reported that, according to a late-August poll, only 31 percent of Americans approve of the war, while approximately 63 percent disapprove; voters are particularly dissatisfied with high gasoline prices.
The sources added that a tactical pause could also provide the U.S. military with breathing room to replenish its severely depleted ammunition stockpiles.
