PNN – Democratic Senator Chris Murphy acknowledged that U.S. President Donald Trump has lost the war, noting that the continuation of the military conflict leaves the United States weaker while Iran grows stronger.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the Connecticut senator stated in an interview with NBC News on Sunday: I would support a deal to end this war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. I am prepared to support a bad deal to end this war and reopen the Strait because the only deal available at this moment is a bad, terrible deal.
Murphy, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, added: Trump faces poor options; therefore, he must find a way to stabilize markets and reduce costs for ordinary Americans.
He emphasized: The war must end, because for every day it continues, the U.S. grows weaker, Iran grows stronger, and people here in the United States struggle with rising prices.
Stating that Trump has lost the war against Iran, the Democratic senator added: The cost of reopening the Strait rises daily. The proposed deal currently on the table would provide Iran with $100 billion annually to reopen the Strait. That is equivalent to one-third of Iran’s entire economy. What a massive victory for Iran—to be paid for reopening the Strait at the end of this war. They are getting money to rebuild their military and to restore their support for proxy forces in the region.
Democrats have repeatedly voted to curb Trump’s war powers, but the majority of Republicans have rejected these measures.
Murphy stated that he would continue to vote to end the war but would support efforts to replenish military munitions depleted during the conflict.
The Democratic senator said: I will not support funding to continue this war. But if the war ends—if the president ends this war—my colleagues and I will be ready to provide the necessary funding to replenish depleted munitions stockpiles.
