PNN – An American media outlet has reported a significant depletion of the US military’s precision-guided munitions stockpiles due to the conflict with Iran.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; ABC News reported that the US military has expended approximately one-third of its total precision-guided munitions inventory—held prior to the start of the conflict—during recent engagements with Iran.
The report indicates that interceptor systems have seen the greatest reduction in stockpiles.
The report states that the THAAD system has seen a 70% to 80% reduction in inventory, with between 190 and 290 of its total 360 interceptors having been deployed.
ABC News added that the SM-3 system has depleted more than half of its stockpile, with usage estimated at between 130 and 250 of the total 410 interceptors.
The Patriot system has also seen the expenditure of between 1,060 and 1,430 interceptors, representing a loss of up to 61% of its total inventory of 2,330.
The outlet noted that these figures indicate immense strain on the U.S. precision-guided munitions supply chain and a significant degradation of the country’s deterrence and fire-support capabilities should the conflict continue.
