PNN – The head of the Shin Bet has accused Iran of attempting to influence the upcoming Israeli elections.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network and amidst the prevailing climate of fear regarding Iran across various Israeli institutions, the head of the Shin Bet has identified Iran as one of the countries attempting to influence the Israeli electoral process.
In a related report, Israel’s Channel 13 revealed that the head of the Shin Bet warned high-ranking Israeli officials during a series of meetings that Tehran, Moscow, and Beijing are attempting to disrupt the electoral process in Israel, and that he is deeply concerned about this threat.
The report continues: Channel 13 learned this Monday morning that David Zini, the head of Israel’s internal security service (Shin Bet), warned senior Israeli officials during a series of meetings and discussions about efforts by Iran—as well as Russia and China—to influence the upcoming election process. He accused these nations of seeking to disrupt the Israeli elections and expressed deep concern regarding this threat.
According to Zini, Israel’s internal security agency (Shin Bet) is dedicating significant resources to countering efforts by Iran and foreign nations to sabotage the election process.
Zini described the election as the second most critical issue currently occupying the Shin Bet’s attention, ranking just behind the threat of large-scale attacks against Israel. He asserted that the agency under his command would take all necessary measures to prevent any attempts to disrupt the elections.
Another part of the report states that the Israeli Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee began a discussion today regarding preparations for the elections. The meeting was attended by David Zini, the head of the Shin Bet; Justice Noam Sohlberg, the head of the Elections Committee; the head of Israel’s cyber-security agency; and representatives from the National Security Council and the Israeli military.
Boaz Bismuth, a Knesset member and committee chairman, stated: Iran will attempt to turn the election campaign into another front.
Isaac Herzog also issued a statement last week, noting that Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar and the head of the Central Elections Committee, Justice Noam Sohlberg, had briefed him on various threats to the integrity of the elections—both domestic and international: The risks are significant, and we must all be cautious, prudent, and responsible regarding the content we publish.
