PNN – Haredi leaders state that secular individuals are also evading military service in the Zionist regime’s army.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the newspaper Zman Yisrael published a report on Tuesday noting that certain Haredi politicians and prominent figures—whether on social media or in televised debates—claim that secular people are widely shirking [or evading] service in the Israeli army.
Some even claim that no one in Tel Aviv goes to the army at all or that the rate of non-enlistment among non-Haredim is equal to that of the Haredim.
Elsewhere in this lengthy report, the question is raised: Is it really true that the majority of those failing to respond to draft notices are not Haredi?
The answer provided is: In May 2025, Brigadier General Shay Tayeb, the head of the IDF’s Manpower Planning and Management Division, stated before the Knesset’s Manpower Subcommittee that the majority of current draft evaders are not Haredi.
It is hardly surprising that Haredi internet figures seized upon this remark like a precious treasure; it quickly circulated across social media and received widespread coverage in mainstream media. Opposition lawmakers attacked Tayeb—with one remarking, “It would have been better not to announce this figure at all”—yet the figure actually reflects something entirely different from what was attributed to it.
