PNN – According to informed sources, the U.S. Treasury Department is expanding the scope of secondary sanctions against Iran.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; an informed source told Reuters the U.S. Treasury Department is expected to expand the scope of secondary sanctions applicable to entities and countries that maintain trade relations with Iran, as the Trump administration seeks to increase economic pressure on Tehran on Monday.

The source, who requested anonymity, claimed that this move is intended to serve as a final warning to countries to sever trade ties with Iran and to help end the nearly six-month-long conflict that has disrupted energy exports through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is expected to announce further details regarding the measures against Iran at a press conference on Monday.

The source claimed that Basnet also intends to present a broader overview of what has been termed the economic pressure campaign against Iran—described by him and Trump as “Economic D-Day”—and to make it clear to nations that they must either stand with the U.S. or risk having key companies and entities cut off from the dollar-based financial system.
