The U.S. wants to make Israel’s failed backer the UN Secretary-General.

Secretary-General

PNN – Hebrew media reported that a “defeated” close friend of Israel is set to become the UN Secretary-General, following a proposal by the United States.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the newspaper Maariv—citing Western sources—reported that the Trump administration intends to nominate a former Prime Minister of Hungary for the position of UN Secretary-General, and anticipates that Russia and China will also support this proposal.

The report states that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump—described here as a “terrorist” president—is planning, in a surprise move, to nominate Viktor Orbán, the former Prime Minister of Hungary, for the position of UN Secretary-General; a move that could potentially garner support from Russia and China. According to this Hebrew-language media outlet, Western media have confirmed that Washington is working to back Orbán’s candidacy for the next UN Secretary-General following his defeat in the Hungarian elections.

According to this report, the initiative originated with the U.S. government; senior U.S. officials reached out to Orbán and encouraged him to seek the position.

While the plan has not yet been finalized, sources familiar with the discussions believe it may be possible to secure the support of all three major powers: the United States, Russia, and China.

Trump supported Orbán during the Hungarian election campaign, and the personal and ideological bond between the two could explain the U.S. interest in elevating his status and placing him in a high-level international role—perhaps as a way to compensate for his electoral defeat, which is said to have occurred despite the support he received from Israel and Trump.
