PNN – The Trump administration has now turned to increasing imports and lowering tariff barriers to curb rising food prices.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; less than a year and a half has passed since Donald Trump promised the American people more jobs and economic prosperity following the imposition of new tariffs on goods entering from numerous countries—including Washington’s allies—yet his administration has now resorted to increasing imports and reducing tariff barriers to rein in rising food prices.
The head of the U.S. administration wrote in a message on the “Truth Social” platform: Today, I finalized an agreement that will significantly lower the price of ground beef for hardworking American families.
Although more than a year and seven months have passed since the end of Joe Biden’s presidency, Trump blamed him for current meat prices in the U.S., writing: As everyone knows, during Biden’s presidency, the price of beef saw the highest rate of increase [in history], and the U.S. cattle herd fell to its lowest level in modern history.
Trump further announced that the U.S. government would authorize the tariff-free import of over 300,000 tons of meat—intended for use in ground beef—over the next 90 days, outside of standard import quotas. He added that, under this agreement, a commitment has been made to supply the imported meat at a price 25 percent lower than current market rates.
Trump stated that this agreement would not only lower meat prices for American consumers but also provide the opportunity to rebuild cattle herds and support American ranchers.
