Trump claimed that Al-Sharaa is willing to take action to eliminate Hezbollah and that he is considering giving him the green light.
When asked if Ahmed Al-Sharaa needed his approval for this, Trump replied: I’m thinking about it. I’m considering giving him the green light.
At the same time, the U.S. President claimed: It would be good if Israel withdrew from parts of Lebanon and southern Syria.
Trump also asserted that Israel should reconsider its deployment in Lebanon and focus on Iran.
Citing U.S. and Israeli officials, Axios reported that during a phone call on Thursday, Trump told Netanyahu that Israel’s military presence inside Syrian territory increases tensions and could lead to an escalation of the situation.
According to a U.S. official, Trump told Netanyahu that Syria does not want Israel there and that Israeli forces must be redeployed to the border.
The official also claimed that the U.S. President adopted a similar stance regarding the presence of the Israeli military in Lebanon.
In contrast, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office issued a statement noting that, during the call, Netanyahu raised the necessity of establishing buffer and security zones along the borders of the occupied territories.
Ahmad al-Shara’ has previously claimed on numerous occasions that Syria does not seek a military role in Lebanon; rather, it supports the country’s stability, the strengthening of economic ties, support for Lebanese state institutions, and dialogue among all parties, including Hezbollah.
