PNN – US President Donald Trump, once again reiterating controversial and politically charged claims, stated that he believes the war will end soon and that an agreement might be reached.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the US President—speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday (local time) regarding global and domestic energy prices—reasserted his belief that the war against Iran would conclude “very soon.”
At the same time, the US President acknowledged that supplies of certain munitions had become “more limited” following months of war with Iran, but claimed that the United States possesses other types of lower-technology weaponry to continue the conflict if necessary.
Trump also stated that replenishing weapons stockpiles is vital in the event of another conflict.
Addressing domestic criticism regarding the U.S.’s involvement in a fruitless war and the failure to achieve unrealistic goals, he added: I don’t think they can go on much longer.
The U.S. President claimed: Things are going very well. As you know, I am involved in the negotiations; I think we are doing well, and an agreement might be reached soon.
He asserted: It seems to me that everything is falling into place.
In response to a reporter’s question about whether an agreement had been reached to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Trump reiterated his familiar line: I don’t want to say it has been reached, but right now, it is open—in a way.
Responding to a question about his administration’s request to Congress for increased defense funding, he said: We have virtually unlimited stockpiles. We have other items that are somewhat more limited.
The U.S. President claimed: We have certain types of munitions that might not be as precise. They might not be—you know—as high-end.
CNN previously reported that a shortage of long-range guided missiles and air defense interceptors has impacted Donald Trump’s policy regarding a potential war with Iran, noting that the U.S. military has expended nearly 80 percent of its THAAD missile inventory.
In a report on Tuesday (local time), CNN added that the U.S. military has utilized nearly 80 percent of the interceptor missiles for one of its key missile defense systems, and senior U.S. military commanders have warned that Pentagon ammunition stockpiles have dropped to critically low and alarming levels.
According to this American media outlet, stockpiles of key air defense systems have been severely depleted—particularly during the conflict with Iran—with the U.S. military having utilized nearly four-fifths of its inventory of THAAD interceptor missiles and approximately half of its Patriot interceptors.
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has estimated that, prior to the start of hostilities against Iran; the United States possessed approximately 2,200 Patriot interceptor missiles (comprising two advanced versions of the system) and 452 THAAD interceptors.
