US Desperation: Request to G20 to Protect Shipping Routes

G20

PNN – While the insecurity of shipping lanes is a consequence of the United States’ aggressive policies, the U.S. Secretary of State has called on the G20 to place the protection of these shipping routes on its agenda.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on X: At today’s G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting, I emphasized clearly that maritime security and food security are the foundations of economic security.

Even as Washington’s aggression against Iranian territory has fueled insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and disrupted global food and energy supply chains, the U.S. Secretary of State added: Under the ‘America First’ agenda, the United States encourages its partners to protect shipping lanes, strengthen food security, and mitigate the economic repercussions of geopolitical crises.

The G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting will be held on October 30–31, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia, hosted by the United States. Chaired by the U.S. Secretary of State, the meeting’s agenda includes issues such as global economic challenges, energy and food security, the protection of shipping lanes, the strengthening of supply chains, and the economic repercussions of geopolitical crises.

The meeting takes place against a backdrop where disagreements among G20 members—regarding the war in Ukraine, developments in West Asia, and relations with Russia—have cast a shadow over international cooperation.

The G20 is an international forum for dialogue and coordination on major global economic issues, comprising 19 countries, the European Union, and the African Union. The group’s leaders’ summit is scheduled to be held on December 14–15, 2026, in Miami, United States.
