PNN – A Zionist researcher downplayed the significance of the new US sanctions against Iran, emphasizing that Washington’s economic pressure has so far failed to force Tehran to back down.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Danny Citrinowicz, a researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), assessed the new US sanctions against Iran and stated that Washington’s recent measures have not brought about a significant shift in the policy of pressure on Tehran.
Pointing to the US threat to penalize countries that continue economic engagement with Iran, he noted that the key issue is not the announcement of new sanctions, but rather Washington’s readiness to actually carry out these threats against nations that persist in assisting Iran.
The Zionist researcher stated: There is nothing new; in practice, nothing truly new has been put forward.
Sitrinovich added: The depreciation of the rial, rising inflation and the surge in prices of essential goods have placed significant pressure on Iran’s economy; however, these pressures have not yet been sufficient to force the Iranian regime to back down.
He further noted that the United States’ primary objective at this stage is to increase pressure on Iran and restrict Tehran’s avenues for economic engagement with the world; yet, achieving this goal faces a serious obstacle: the continued economic cooperation of certain powers—specifically China and Turkey—with Iran.
Based on this assessment, if Washington truly intends to restrict Iran’s access to foreign resources and markets, it will inevitably have to confront countries capable of neutralizing some of the pressure exerted by sanctions—a move that could entail significant economic and geopolitical costs for the United States.
From the perspective of Israeli security circles, economic sanctions alone have so far failed to alter Tehran’s strategic calculations and the success of the U.S. “maximum pressure” policy will depend largely on how Washington deals with Iran’s economic partners.
