PNN – The Washington Post highlighted that Benjamin Netanyahu is facing growing international isolation ahead of his United Nations address and the 2026 Knesset elections.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the American newspaper emphasized that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is confronting unprecedented levels of international isolation—just weeks before a pivotal election and shortly before his scheduled speech at the UN General Assembly in New York this Thursday.
The newspaper described the current situation as “fateful” for his political future and noted that, as of Wednesday, Netanyahu had no plans to meet with Donald Trump during his trip to New York; he is scheduled to arrive in New York on Thursday and return directly to the occupied territories without staying overnight.
In this context, Jesse Weinberg, a researcher specializing in U.S.-Middle East relations at the Institute for National Security Studies, told The Washington Post: The fact that this is merely a one-day trip, and that Trump will not be meeting with him, underscores the precarious situation in which Israel and its leaders currently find themselves. He added: Israel sees itself in a dangerous position.
The Washington Post noted that this isolation comes as no surprise. Last year, the UN General Assembly witnessed more than 100 diplomats from over 50 countries walking out of the hall in a sharp and unusual protest following Netanyahu’s arrival.
The newspaper added that in recent months, the Zionist regime’s international standing has further deteriorated amidst fierce criticism of its conduct during the aggression against Gaza, alongside growing international outrage over the expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank and the violent actions of Israeli settlers there.
In this context, twelve European nations—including the UK, Canada, and France—announced the imposition of sanctions against Israeli settlements as a punitive measure.
The report noted that with the approach of the Knesset elections, Netanyahu’s domestic critics hold him and the hardliners in his cabinet responsible for damaging the Zionist regime’s international image.
Additionally, a Pew Research Center poll published in April revealed that 60 percent of American adults hold a negative view of the Zionist regime, and calls among U.S. lawmakers for fundamental changes to the military aid provided to it are on the rise.
The Washington Post added that, among European nations, Spain and Italy began calling for restrictions on arms sales to the Zionist regime in the weeks following the October 7, 2023 operation. Several other countries, including France and the UK, have recognized the State of Palestine over the past year.
Tensions and boycotts targeting the Zionist regime have also expanded to the cultural sphere; notably, Ireland announced it would boycott the Eurovision Song Contest in protest of the Zionist regime’s participation. The Netherlands, Iceland, Slovenia, and Spain also joined the boycott of the 2026 contest.
