The turn of the ceasefire; will Gaza see peace?

PNN – After about three months of the escalation of the war between Israel and Lebanon, which originated from the deadly and tragic war in Gaza and the open crimes and aggressions of the Zionist regime against the people of this region, the ceasefire agreement has been implemented since November 27, 2024, Beirut time.

According to the report of the Lebanese Ministry of Health, this war has resulted in the martyrdom of 3,823 people and the injury of 15,859 Lebanese citizens.

In its report, the World Bank has estimated the amount of damages caused by the destruction of this war for Lebanon at least eight and a half billion dollars and has announced that the reconstruction of the destruction of Lebanon will take time and it is not yet clear how and where the funding should be provided.

Now with the implementation of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, the question is what will be the fate of the war in Gaza?

Esmail Baqaei, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, welcomed the news of the cessation of the aggression of the Zionist regime against Lebanon and emphasized the firm support of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Lebanese government, nation and resistance. Baqaei also emphasized the responsibility of the international community to protect peace and stability in the West Asian region and exert effective pressure on the aggressor Zionist regime to stop the war against Gaza.

In reaction to the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and the Israeli regime, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized in optimistic statements that this ceasefire should pave the way for ending the war in the Gaza Strip.

In a similar reaction, German Foreign Minister Analena Baerbock called the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel “a glimmer of hope for the entire region” of the Middle East.

One of the main reasons why a cease-fire in Gaza cannot be imagined and achieved at least in the near future is that Israel is free from a tough and suffocating war against Lebanon and the Hezbollah resistance group. After stopping the war against Lebanon and Hezbollah, the forces of the Zionist regime, even with more concentration and forces than before, may continue to commit crimes and genocide of the people of Gaza.

Some analysts believe that one of the reasons for Israel agreeing to the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, in addition to not having enough power to fight on more than one front, is the gift and good service of this regime to the next American government headed by Donald Trump with the aim of gaining maximum support of the White House in the period of the new administration of the United States.

In general, although the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, provided that Tel Aviv adheres to this agreement, it is considered a positive step in reducing tensions in the Middle East and has been welcomed by countries including the Islamic Republic of Iran. But as long as the unprecedented war and killing of the defenseless people of Gaza and Israel’s aggression on the territory of Syria and Lebanon and the anti-Iranian actions of this regime continue, we cannot expect peace to return to the Middle East.

The continuation and continuity of this tension-causing process, which originates from the illegal and aggressive actions of the Zionist regime and is strengthened by the silence and duplicitous behavior of the governments that support Israel, has made peace and tranquility in the Middle East far out of reach.

What is clear about the power and military and economic capabilities of the Israeli regime, this regime owes all of these power and capabilities to the extensive and obvious political, economic and military support of the United States. And as long as Washington does not stop supporting Israel, it will be the main culprit of unrest, tension, crisis and killing in the Middle East.
