PNN – The American journalist said that the Strait of Hormuz is now a trump card in Iran’s hands, while it was not before the war.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Daniel DePetris, a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, said in a report on the situation of the Strait of Hormuz and US politics: Before the war, the Strait of Hormuz was not a problem. Hundreds of tankers and ships passed through this waterway daily. Oil reached the market. Ships were not targeted by gunfire or drones. Iran did not use the Strait as a lever of pressure, because it did not need to.
He added: After the war, the Strait of Hormuz became an issue. Trump hoped that the heavy bombing of Iran would scare it enough to surrender, but that didn’t happen. Instead, Iran saw giving in to pressure — especially American pressure — as even worse than losing the war in the conventional way. Iran’s strategy was: expand the battlefield to the Gulf States (which had two goals: first, to increase fuel costs; second, to pressure the Gulf States to lobby Trump to end the war), close the strait, and get through this phase at all costs.
De Petris continued: This strategy has worked to a reasonable extent. Iran is actually preventing Trump from escalating further. The Strait remains blocked. Iran’s position to end the war has become harder.
The American journalist noted: Hormuz is now in Iran’s hands as a trump card, while it was not before the war. And in the nuclear file, Tehran is showing that it will not sit down at the negotiating table until the war is over and US sanctions are lifted. In this matter, Trump is his own worst enemy.
