PNN – The head of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya has reported an intensification of the brutal torture inflicted upon him by the Zionists while in detention.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; more than a year has passed since the arbitrary and irrational arrest of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya—the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, who displayed unparalleled self-sacrifice by choosing to remain with his patients rather than save his own life—yet the torture and hostile actions of the Zionists against this heroic Palestinian physician continue unabated.

In this regard, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya revealed harrowing details about the conditions of his detention within the occupying regime’s prisons in a message sent via his lawyer on Wednesday.

Dr. Abu Safiya stated that while held in Zionist enemy prisons, he was subjected to repeated attacks and severe beatings across various parts of his body—including sensitive areas—inflicted by hands, feet, and batons.

He explained that these assaults frequently occur immediately after visits from his lawyers, and that prison guards deliberately prevent him from sleeping by creating noise and using loudspeakers throughout the night.

Physicians for Human Rights announced that it is pursuing legal avenues to obtain authorization to examine Dr. Abu Safiya; a request for an examination by an internal medicine specialist was submitted on July 7 but was rejected.

The association emphasized that following Dr. Abu Safiya’s transfer from solitary confinement in the underground Nafha prison facility to the Prison Service medical center at Ramla Prison, examinations revealed he was suffering from severe medical issues and required an independent specialist physician.

Accordingly, Dr. Abu Safiya’s official medical records indicate severe injuries to his left eye, head, and chest, resulting from deliberate, severe physical assaults by prison guards.

Nasser Odeh, the lawyer for Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, announced that the Israeli Prison Service had transferred Dr. Abu Safiya from Negev Prison to solitary confinement in the Nafha desert prison, subjecting him to harsh detention conditions and depriving him of necessary medical treatment and care.

He added: The Zionist enemy’s order to transfer and quarantine the head of Kamal Adwan Hospital was a direct punitive measure following the appeal against the continued detention of Abu Safia. He has been subjected to numerous threats and pressures from intelligence agents and Israeli prison officials.

The lawyer for the “Gaza Hero Doctor” explained that this pressure is intended to prevent reports on the reality of the conditions Dr. Hossam endures in Israeli prisons, as well as the conditions faced by other Palestinian prisoners. His confinement in solitary cell aims to cut off Abu Safia from other prisoners, his lawyer, and the outside world; lawyers have repeatedly been denied access to him without clear legal justification.

Nasser Odeh stated that Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya remains in detention without explanation under the so-called “Unlawful Combatants Law,” with no evidence presented to substantiate the charges against him. Abu Safiya’s case is part of a broader pattern affecting Palestinian medical personnel; Israel has detained approximately 14 Palestinian doctors from within Gaza’s hospitals—an action that is part of the regime’s criminal policy of targeting Gaza’s health sector and its staff throughout the war.

On October 5, 2024, the Israeli military imposed a suffocating siege on the northern Gaza Strip, blocking the entry of food and water. Concurrently, brutal Zionist ground and air assaults continued in the area, resulting in the mass killing of civilians. Dr. Abu Safia’s son was also killed during these Zionist attacks.

On October 25 of the same year, Zionist occupation forces raided Kamal Adwan Hospital and detained Dr. Hossam, along with hundreds of patients and the wounded. Dr. Abu Safia was released a few days later, at which point he received the news of his son’s death in one of the Zionist enemy’s attacks.

On November 24 of that same year, Abu Safia was wounded by an Israeli drone strike as he was leaving the operating room. He explained that six pieces of shrapnel had struck his thigh, severing his veins and arteries.

However, on December 27, 2024, Zionist occupation forces launched their most brutal assault on Kamal Adwan Hospital; they set the facility ablaze and took Dr. Abu Safia prisoner. The final image of Dr. Hossam—walking across the ruins of his hospital toward an enemy army tank stationed before him—resonated widely in the media, particularly on social networks, where users described the scene with the caption: Alone, like Gaza.
