Somalia: Israeli ships banned from passing through Bab al-Mandab

Somalia

PNN – The Somalia ambassador to Ethiopia said: Ethiopia and the African Union agree that any country that interferes in Somalia’s internal affairs and harms its territorial integrity and sovereignty will face serious consequences, including possible restrictions on access to the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Somalia, in response to the Israeli regime’s recognition of the separatist region of Somaliland, announced that the regime’s ships would be prohibited from passing through the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Abdullahi Warfa, Somalia’s ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union, warned in response to the Israeli regime’s support for the separatists of Somaliland that any interference in the sovereignty of Mogadishu would have dire consequences.

Warfa added that any country that interferes in Somalia’s internal affairs and undermines its territorial integrity and sovereignty will face serious consequences, including possible restrictions on access to the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Although analysts question the ability of Somalia, which lacks an effective navy or air force, to enforce the ban militarily, they also emphasize that the stance has dangerous diplomatic consequences and could push Mogadishu to forge new relations with Sanaa, which would threaten Somalia’s relations with the United States.

This development comes a few days after the Israeli regime began implementing an ambassador exchange agreement with Somaliland, becoming the first regime to recognize Somaliland since its declaration of independence in 1991.

This move by the Zionists comes despite the fact that Somaliland has not been recognized as an independent state by the United Nations or any other country.
