PNN – Coinciding with the visit of the British King and his wife to the United States, an audio recording was released from the British ambassador to Washington, who said: The United States’ only special relationship is probably with Israel, not Britain.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; The Financial Times has obtained an audio recording of remarks by British Ambassador to the United States Christine Turner, made in mid-February at an event with British students visiting Washington, shortly after Turner was appointed ambassador.
In a response to the Financial Times, the UK Foreign Office did not deny Turner’s comments but stressed that they did not reflect the position of the British government.
In a speech to students, Turner said he did not like the term “special relationship” to describe relations between the UK and the US, saying it was “nostalgic” and “looking back”.
The audio comes as King Charles III and his wife Camilla are in Washington on a four-day official visit to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence. Charles will also seek to strengthen the so-called “special relationship” that has been strained in recent months by public clashes between US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Christine Turner took over as Britain’s ambassador to Washington after Keir Starmer removed Peter Mendelsohn from his post over his links to American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In the audio, Turner told students he found it “extraordinary” that the Epstein scandal, which has rocked Britain and could cost Starmer his job, “hasn’t affected anyone in the United States.”
Despite questioning the phrase “special relationship”, Turner said that the UK-US relationship remained “strong”.
Jeffrey Epstein, who was previously accused and convicted of managing an organized network of sexual abuse of underage girls, according to documents, attempted to attract, seduce, and entrap prominent political and economic figures around the world, not only for personal gain, but also within the framework of intelligence cooperation.
