University of California graduate workers strike over Gaza war protesters

PNN – Members of the UCL have agreed to hold a general strike to protest the treatment of Gaza war protesters.

According to Pakistan News Network’s report from the Guardian newspaper, widespread disruption is expected in the country’s large labor system following the agreement of American University of California graduate workers to hold a series of serious strikes starting Monday at the University of California (UC) in Santa Cruz.

The University of California has more than 280,000 students and 227,000 employees and faculty members across the state.

Members of the UAW, which represents 48,000 University of California graduates, agreed to the strike on Wednesday. On Friday, the union asked graduate workers of this university in Santa Cruz, California to strike on Monday.

The request to hold strikes was in response to the inappropriate actions against the protests against the Gaza war, during which the members of this trade union were attacked by the opponents of the protests and the police.

In December, the Automobile Workers Union called for a cease-fire in Gaza. The union plans to use tactics used in last year’s successful strikes against the three major American automakers in the new round of strikes.

A graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and a representative of the auto workers union said that the focus of these strikes is to respect the right to freedom of speech and peaceful protests.

He said: If the university community is threatened and beaten during peaceful protests in this particular field, our power to talk about all issues will be threatened.

University of California management claims that these strikes are illegal, but the union classified them as legal strikes against unfair labor practices.

According to the New York Times, the Auto Workers Union has said that other universities may also strike if officials fail to address their complaints about the treatment of pro-Palestinian students.
