Hebrew account of the US destroyer’s conditions: no electricity and no toilets.

PNN – Israel’s Channel 14 has reported on a series of breakdowns affecting US naval vessels.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the Hebrew-language outlet reported that successive malfunctions in US Navy vessels have pushed the force toward paralysis.

According to the Hebrew-language media outlet’s website, an electrical system failure aboard the US destroyer USS Benfold rendered the vessel inoperable and incapacitated, damaging air conditioning, sanitation facilities, the galley, and potable water supplies. Hundreds of crew members were forced to endure extreme heat and grueling conditions for four days, while other vessels provided them with food and necessary aid.

This incident occurred amidst a similar technical failure on another destroyer—a development that has heightened concerns regarding the unsustainable operational burden placed on the U.S. Navy.

The report further notes that last month, the guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold lost electrical power during routine operations in the Indo-Pacific region following a generator failure; the outage lasted four days, creating wretched conditions for the crew.

This technical failure caused the ship to lose propulsion, while its vital systems—including sanitation facilities, air conditioning, the galley, and the potable water supply—suffered severe disruptions.

After four days, the destroyer was towed to Subic Bay in the Philippines for repairs.

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold displaces approximately 10,000 tons. The crew was forced to spend four days at sea in stifling heat, without air conditioning, sanitation facilities, a functioning galley, or a water supply.

Captain Matthew Comer, a spokesperson for the U.S. 7th Fleet, stated that the incident was caused by a “technical malfunction involving the generators.” The consequences were severe: the destroyer lost its ability to maneuver independently, while essential services for the crew—including food preparation, sanitation facilities, air conditioning, and access to drinking water—were disrupted.

According to USNI News, the incident occurred in the South China Sea. While the U.S. Navy did not disclose the vessel’s exact location at the time, daytime temperatures in the region during late July ranged from 90 to 98 degrees Fahrenheit.

In another part of its report, the Zionist regime’s Channel 14 emphasized that the significance of this event is heightened by the fact that it is not the only incident of its kind to occur within the US Navy recently; in May, the destroyer USS Higgins also lost electrical power and propulsion for several hours in the Indo-Pacific region.

At that time, the Navy described the incident as a “technical malfunction” that had affected the vessel’s electrical system.

Both vessels belong to the Arleigh Burke class, which constitutes the backbone of the U.S. surface fleet. More than 70 destroyers of this class are currently in service. Each destroyer measures approximately 150 meters in length, weighs nearly 10,000 tons, and carries a crew of between 329 and 359 personnel, depending on the configuration. This technical fault comes at a time when debates are intensifying in the United States regarding the operational strain placed on the Navy—stemming from potential conflict with Iran and Washington’s global military commitments.

The report concludes by noting that the destroyer USS Benfold typically operates as part of the USS George Washington carrier strike group. This group is currently en route to the Middle East to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been deployed in the region for an extended period. Reports have also emerged regarding the hardships—described as “wretched conditions”—faced by the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln after spending more than 200 days without a port call during operations against Iran.
