PNN – A media outlet’s exposé regarding a crisis involving a US aircraft carrier has sparked the Pentagon’s anger.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; CBS reported that US defense officials are considering the dismissal of Max Lederer, publisher of the military newspaper Stars and Stripes, prior to his scheduled retirement. This move follows the publication of reports concerning a crisis aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.
The report states that Pentagon officials have discussed removing Lederer before his planned retirement. Meanwhile, the Donald Trump administration is formulating a plan to extensively restructure Stars and Stripes—a military media outlet partially funded by US taxpayers.
Lederer, who has led the newspaper for 19 years, announced to his colleagues this week that he plans to retire on September 30. He cited fundamental disagreements with the Trump administration as the reason for this decision.
In recent years, Stars and Stripes has published reports on internal issues within the U.S. military and criticized certain policies and actions of the country’s military leadership.
The newspaper has also recently published reports regarding the war in the Middle East and its impact on U.S. forces.
This media outlet was among the first to report on the objections raised by the families of sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln to U.S. Navy officials. The families had expressed concern over the extended duration of the ship’s deployment and the crew’s continuous presence in the region for months.
According to Stars and Stripes, the ship has spent approximately 250 consecutive days at sea without docking at a port; reports have also emerged regarding shortages of certain equipment and supplies, deteriorating conditions, psychological stress, and declining crew morale.
