PNN – The former head of the Progressive Socialist Party of Lebanon Walid Jumblatt reacted to the framework agreement between Lebanon and the Israeli regime by publishing an image of the famous painting “Black Square” by Russian artist Kazimir Malevich, describing it as “triangular in form and one-sided in content.”
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing the Lebanon Debate news site, Walid Jumblatt, former head of the Progressive Socialist Party of Lebanon, posted a post on the X social network, showing a symbolic and thought-provoking reaction to the framework agreement between Lebanon and the Zionist regime.
In this post, he published an image of the famous painting “Black Square” by the famous Russian artist Kazimir Malevich and wrote in the caption: What is noteworthy about this agreement—tripartite in form yet unilateral in content—is the complete absence of a ceasefire agreement.
Jumblatt’s post was published amid widespread political controversy that arose after the announcement of the framework agreement between the Israeli regime and Lebanon.
Jumblatt pointed to the complete absence in the new agreement of the 1949 armistice agreement, which for decades was the legal authority governing military relations between Lebanon and the Zionist regime.
According to Lebanon Debate, Jumblatt’s choice to paint the “Black Square” carries deep symbolic implications.
One of the most famous works of abstract art of the 20th century, this work consists of a black square devoid of any details or other visual elements. The painting is often read as an expression of emptiness, ending a previous page and opening a space for multiple interpretations. A meaning that is fully consistent with the content of Jumblatt’s criticism.
In this criticism, Jumblatt complained about the absence of a fundamental authority in the new agreement and described its content as a one-sided approach that disregarded previous legal foundations, without explicitly mentioning further details.
Lebanon and the Israeli regime reached a framework for a future agreement on Friday after five rounds of negotiations and four days of consultations in Washington, mediated by the United States. The framework was signed in the presence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Lebanese Ambassador to the United States Nada Hamadeh Moawad, and Israeli Ambassador to Washington Yakhil Leiter.
According to the American news outlet Axios, the agreement outlines the path for future negotiations between the two sides and includes initial implementation measures. The outlet quoted an Israeli official as saying that under the agreement, the Zionist regime will maintain its presence in the security zone known as the “Yellow Line” until Hezbollah disarms.
