American media: Trump’s promise to end the war in Ukraine faces difficult realities

PNN – Referring to the promises of Donald Trump in his election campaigns, the American CNBC news channel wrote: With Trump returning to the White House, he is faced with the difficult reality of fulfilling this promise.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, this American media wrote: Trump said that he would end the war in Ukraine after the inauguration ceremony or even before that in “24 hours”.

After almost three years of the war in Ukraine, there is no sign of the end of the war. According to two sources close to the Ukrainian government and a former US diplomat, since Trump won the election, his team has not made a peace proposal to Ukraine. There is also no news of the so-called “back-and-forth” diplomacy between Kiev, Moscow and Trump at his residence in Mar a Lago.

Members of Trump’s national security team have acknowledged in recent weeks the difficulty of brokering a possible peace deal in the Ukraine war.

Keith Kellogg, a retired US general and Trump’s pick for special envoy to Ukraine, told Fox News last month: Let’s set it at 100 days and go back and figure out a way we can do this in the short term to make sure the solution is solid and sustainable and whether this war ends.

Kellogg is expected to travel to Ukraine for talks soon after Trump’s inauguration on Monday, sources familiar with the matter said. According to the sources, Kellogg had tentative plans to travel to Ukraine, but decided to postpone the trip.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Trump’s pick for secretary of state, told senators at his confirmation ceremony in Congress on Wednesday that it would be “very difficult” to reach a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia.

Informed sources confirmed that despite the cooperation of the White House in the Biden administration to reach a peace agreement between the Israeli regime and Hamas and the release of hostages, there is no such cooperation in the context of Ukraine.

Trump wants to cut US military aid to Ukraine and says European governments should increase their support for Ukraine. He also opposes Ukraine’s firing of long-range missiles into Russian territory.

Trump, who had a strained relationship with the Zelenskyi administration during his first term that led to his first impeachment, has also said that the war in Ukraine is primarily a European problem.

According to Western diplomats, former US officials and analysts, Trump’s latest comments have raised concerns in Ukraine and among his allies in Washington. According to them, the incoming government may force Ukraine to make painful concessions without putting pressure on Russia. Regional experts and Western diplomats doubt that Putin is ready to make concessions in negotiations, especially as his forces slowly but steadily advance in eastern Ukraine.

Kellogg, the representative of the elected US government on Ukraine affairs, prepared a report last year in which he called for pressure on Moscow and Kiev to enter into peace talks. According to this plan, if Russia fails to negotiate, Washington will transfer more military aid to Ukraine. Meanwhile, if the agreement is accepted by Moscow, it will propose to reduce economic sanctions. At the same time, Washington will threaten Kyiv with cutting off aid if it refuses to enter into dialogue. Ukraine’s membership in NATO will be ruled out for a long time, but foreign powers will provide security guarantees for Kiev.

Russia disagrees with Kellogg’s proposal and considers it unacceptable. Moscow insists that Ukraine remain a permanent neutral state with strict limits on its military and surrender territories controlled by Russian forces, as well as areas still controlled by Ukrainian forces.
