PNN – The Yellow Vests movement has called for gatherings and sit-ins in Paris and cities across France on October 31 to defend public freedoms.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing Anadolu Agency, the French Yellow Vests movement has issued a call for nationwide demonstrations on October 31 in protest against the government’s “authoritarian tendencies.”
BFMTV reported that the movement plans to hold protest gatherings and sit-ins in front of the National Assembly in Paris, as well as at municipal buildings throughout the country.
In a statement, the Yellow Vests declared: There is an anger and discontent in this country that is being ignored. They accused the government of indifference, refusing to listen to the people, lying, and repression.
The movement also warned that public freedoms are under threat and condemned the executive branch’s growing tendency toward authoritarianism.
This call comes as French authorities have banned several protest gatherings following a wave of violence and looting last week.
Members of the movement were outraged after the Paris police changed the authorized route for a trade union march on Saturday at the last minute, shifting it to the outskirts of the capital.
One of the movement’s organizers at the Place de la Bastille in Paris—the starting point of the march—stated: Next Saturday, we will demonstrate for the freedom to protest and for all our freedoms.
Meanwhile, thousands of people are expected to take to the streets on Saturday in Paris and other major French cities to protest against the rising cost of living and poor educational conditions.
