PNN – Poll results indicate that the majority of Americans view the Supreme Court’s rulings regarding Trump as being based on political considerations.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; a joint poll by The Washington Post and Ipsos reveals that a significant number of Americans believe the U.S. Supreme Court’s decisions concerning Donald Trump’s policies and executive orders are driven more by political and ideological considerations than by the law.
According to this poll, 46 percent of respondents view the Supreme Court’s decisions in cases involving Trump as political, whereas only 25 percent believe these rulings were based solely on the law. Additionally, 55 percent of Americans have expressed dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court’s performance.
Views on the Supreme Court also vary by party affiliation: 75 percent of Democrats disapprove of the institution’s performance, while 67 percent of Republicans approve of it.
This poll was released against the backdrop of recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings that have both limited certain powers of the Trump administration and—in other cases—expanded the scope of presidential authority; a trend that has intensified criticism regarding the politicization of the nation’s highest court.
Key rulings from the Court during this period include upholding the president’s authority to dismiss agency heads, authorizing immigration officials to return asylum seekers to the southern border, permitting the termination of protected status for thousands of migrants from Haiti and Syria, and banning transgender athletes from participating in girls’ school sports.
However, this Supreme Court term has not been a string of victories for Trump. Rulings issued against him included blocking the global tariffs he sought to impose in February, halting his executive order regarding birthright citizenship, and denying the president the authority to fire the Federal Reserve Chair. This Supreme Court term concluded at the end of June.
These figures reflect a growing distrust among the American public toward key government institutions, including the presidency, Congress, the Supreme Court, the military, public schools, the judicial system, and the police.
This is while only 27 percent of respondents in a recent Gallup poll stated that they have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the Supreme Court.
These findings indicate that public distrust of U.S. legislative institutions remains high, transcending political and partisan divisions.
