PNN – The Rome prosecutor’s office announced the filing of a legal case against the Israeli regime on charges of kidnapping the passengers of the Samood flotilla in international waters.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Anadolu Agency, the Rome Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday that an investigation has been launched into the arrest of Italian nationals during the Israeli seizure of the Gaza aid flotilla in international Greek waters.
The Italian news agency ANSA reported that the filing of the lawsuit is related to an operation that took place on the night of April 29 off the coast of the Greek island of Crete, where Israeli military forces seized several boats from the Global Solidarity Fleet that were trying to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
According to the news agency, prosecutors opened the investigation after receiving three official complaints, including two related to activists Thiago de Avila and Saif Abu Kashkak, who were reportedly kidnapped from Italian-flagged ships and are currently being held by Israeli forces.
The case will also investigate unidentified individuals on suspicion of kidnapping, theft and causing damage by risking the ship’s sinking, according to the report.
Investigators are expected to submit a request for international judicial cooperation, known as a letter of attorney, to Israeli authorities as part of the investigation.
The Global Fleet was attacked by Israeli occupiers last Thursday near the Greek island of Crete, 600 nautical miles from its destination in the besieged Gaza Strip, for the sole purpose of delivering aid to the besieged people of Gaza.
