PNN – Diplomatic sources told Al Jazeera that Security Council members consider the new resolution by the US and Gulf states on the Strait of Hormuz to be similar to a document that had previously faced vetoes from China and Russia.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Diplomatic sources told Al Jazeera that Security Council members consider the draft resolution by the US and the Persian Gulf countries on the Strait of Hormuz to be similar to the resolution that Russia and China have opposed. Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the submission of a new draft resolution to the Security Council on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s mission to the United Nations today called on Security Council members to act on the basis of “reason and fairness” and reject the resolution, citing the political motivation of the draft.

Previously, China and Russia had vetoed an anti-Iranian resolution proposed by Bahrain in the Security Council on April 8, calling for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

This was despite the fact that this document was a heavily modified version of the initial request from the Gulf Arab countries, and Bahrain had changed the final draft of the resolution in order for it to be voted on.
