Deep rift between Kyiv and Washington with Zelensky and Trump’s “separation”

PNN – The New York Times reported that relations between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which have long been tense, have now reached a stage resembling a “separation,” and as Washington focuses on the war against Iran, Ukrainian peace talks have also effectively stalled.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; The New York Times reported that the problem between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump has been going on for a long time, but their differences peaked more than a year ago, after Trump’s inauguration. The United States was no longer the kind of partner it had been for Ukraine in its war with Russia. Now, Zelensky also appears to be backing away from that relationship, distancing his country from what was once its greatest ally.

The New York Times, while describing the situation between the US and Ukrainian presidents as a kind of “separation”, wrote: This situation began largely because of the US-Israeli war on Iran. US-sponsored peace talks to end the Ukrainian war have been stalled since late February, when the first attacks on Iran began. Also, since the start of the war on Iran, Zelensky has complained that American negotiators have had no time for Ukraine. He also claimed that the US decision to suspend sanctions on some Russian oil in the hope of reducing economic tensions caused by the war on Iran gives the Kremlin a sense of impunity.

The American media outlet claimed: Ukraine now appears to be preparing for a longer war with Russia, as well as for a future with less American assistance.

Harry Ndelko, senior director of Rasmussen Global, a European political consulting firm, said: The Ukraine peace talks are dead. There are no real negotiations anymore. Russia has no incentive to do so now, and the United States is no longer emerging as a credible and reasonable mediator between the two.

The New York Times further emphasized: The winding path to a possible separation from the United States is fraught with setbacks and disrespect for Ukraine. A month after taking office, Trump and his entourage belittled Zelensky in a White House meeting. Trump has repeatedly tried to highlight the argument that Ukraine started the war. The Trump administration is seeking Russian support while cutting aid to Ukraine by 99 percent.

Maxim Skripchenko, head of the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, a non-profit research group in Kyiv, claimed: Even if the flow of American-made weapons were cut off, Ukraine could handle it. If we woke up one morning without any of these weapons, it wouldn’t be a disaster like it was in the past. It’s not like it was under Biden (former US President), when we were dependent on American goods.

Some analysts say that replacing American intelligence will be the most difficult task, but Skripchenko claimed that European alternatives could eventually come into play.

Meanwhile, European Council President Antonio Costa previously announced the possibility of the European Union negotiating with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that the Union has the support of Volodymyr Zelensky to do so.

This claim by the senior EU official came after Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova had previously said in an interview with RIA Novosti: Russia is ready for constructive and fruitful negotiations on Ukraine, and we have never refused such contacts and talks.
