PNN – The head of the Indian “P3” analysis and research center, noting that BRICS member states possess significant military potential, stated that they could explore the possibility of forming an independent political-military alliance similar to NATO in the future.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Speaking to the Russian news agency TASS, Subhashish Banerjee added that, given the BRICS nations’ increasing emphasis on engagement and cooperation, the alliance could begin by establishing a dedicated trade channel to safeguard the interests of its members and partners, and eventually form an independent military bloc akin to NATO.
He noted that the BRICS member states collectively possess significant military potential and impressive economic capabilities.
Banerjee believes that deepening security cooperation among BRICS members could have a profound impact on the current global balance of power.
The name of the Indian “P3” center is derived from the English terms People, Policy, and Politics/Polity; these three elements—people, policymaking, and political structure—form the pillars of this private-sector strategic think tank’s activities in India.
The BRICS group comprises the Islamic Republic of Iran, Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. India is set to hold the group’s rotating presidency in 2026.
According to the report, a new status known as “Partner Country” was established within the BRICS group during the 16th summit in Kazan; this status is considered a necessary step prior to formal accession to the alliance.
This status was granted to Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Nigeria, and Vietnam.
