PNN – An expert on Middle East issues and an assistant professor at the Faculty of International Economic Relations of the State Financial University of Russia believes: The current situation in Syria is very worrying and unpredictable, and there is a possibility that we will see a new war and chaos in this country at the beginning of 2025.
In an interview in Moscow, Igor Mataev said in response to a question about the political outlook in Syria after the recent developments: As an expert, I fundamentally doubt the readiness and most importantly the ability of the opposition groups that have come to power to adopt an independent policy.

He stated: The reality is that at first they will be clearly oriented towards foreign forces, which of course will not allow them to become independent. Although apparently some independent actions will be taken, I remind you that Türkiye did not help the rebels to leave them alone.
The assistant professor of the Faculty of International Economic Relations of the Russian Financial University continued: This situation worries me a lot, because maybe at the beginning of next year (A.D.) and with the intensification of the competition for power between different factions, a new chaotic war is waiting for Syria; As a result, this situation could lead to a new round of protracted violence in Syria.
